Valencia is Spain's third largest city, but is nowhere near
as famous outside of Spain as its bigger siblings
Barcelona and Madrid. This is actually why its easy to learn
Spanish in Valencia - because it is relatively undiscovered by
the world, and so there are less Enlish speakers there.
Also, the local Valencianos find foreigners more interesting
and more of a novelty than perhaps in Barcelona, which has been
awash with foreigners for decades. So in Valencia you can
easily meet and befriend the locals, and practise your Spanish
regularly, which is the very best way to rapidly learn Spanish
in Valencia.
A problem some people encounter trying to learn Spanish in
Barcelona is that the official language of Barcelona is
Catalan, not Spanish, and many people speak Catalan all day
there. Whereas the local language of Valencia - Valenciano - is
a 'co-official' language of the Valencian state, and is spoken
more in outlying villages. In the city everyone speaks Spanish,
so it's easy to learn Spanish in Valencia City.
Valencia is a unique city in many ways, and has everything
to offer: the scenic old city, with a vibrant atmosphere, cool
bars and clubs spilling out on onto the cobbled streets. To the
modern shopping centres, the 'City of Arts and Sciences', and
the dry river bed curled round the city filled with parks,
sports grounds and open air cinemas. And nearby the beach, also
lined with great bars, clubs and restaurants.
Be Prepared to Party
If you are just planning to learn Spanish in Valencia but
aren't yet familiar with the city, then you are in for a treat.
The Valenciaos really know how to party. The Las Fallas
festival in March has the entire city stop and party for a
week, and the fireworks are well-known to be the best in the
world!
It's basically a fantastic idea to live and learn Spanish in
Valencia. The very best way to learn a language is by enjoying
yourself and talking to native speakers - both of which are
easy to do in Valencia.
